Choosing A Better Lawyer

When you are hurt in a car accident, there are a lot of things that run through your mind, but most people aren't focused on suing the other driver or their own insurance company. Unfortunately, because of the way the world works, most people find that they are given far less of a settlement than they deserve, especially if the accident wasn't their fault. I wanted to create a blog all about choosing a better accident and personal injury attorney, so that you can prevent longterm financial ramifications from your accident. I know that a lot of these tips helped me along my journey.

Four Little Known Things You Should Tell Your Personal Injury Attorney

by Willard Chambers

If you are involved in a personal injury case where you have been injured by another party, you want to be sure that you work closely with a personal injury attorney in order to win your case and get the compensation you need. This includes disclosing personal information that you may be embarrassed about, but is ultimately going to help you win the compensation that you deserve. Here are four little known things that should be disclosed:

Criminal Record: Yes, your personal injury attorney needs to know your criminal record. This way, if this information is revealed, your personal injury attorney is not taken aback, but can instead address it head on. Sometimes, a criminal past can be damaging to your case if not handled correctly because it can seem like the injury was done on purpose or that you are lying about the extent of the injuries.

Previous Injuries: You also need to tell your personal injury attorney what injuries you have suffered with in the past before the personal injury case. The reason for this is that you want to be sure that these previous injuries are not used against you. The insurance company may claim that your previous injuries are the cause of the problems you are having now and not the accident that you have been involved in.

Divorce in Progress: If you are going through a divorce, there is a chance that this could hinder your case, so you should always let your personal injury attorney know if this is something you are going through. The reason for this is that your ex could provide testimony against you, especially if the injury you have endured was because of them, their company, or a family member.

Current Health Insurance Provider: If you are currently enrolled in a government sponsored health plan, there is a chance that your medical records are tied up in this government medical system. Your personal injury attorney needs to know this so that they can gain access to all medical files on file. There may be some that you were unaware of that could ultimately be used against you.

When you disclose all of this information, your personal injury attorney can better assist you in your personal injury case. This is because there will not be any private information revealed to them in court later on that they aren't sure how to defend you against.
